Co-founder, Nita Chaudhury of anti-sexism group “Ultra Violet” is demanding the rapper be dropped from the Reebok endorsement deal due to his insensitive lyrics on fellow rapper Rocko’s song, also featuring Future, titled “U.O.E.N.O.” In Rozay’s verse, he swanks about drugging a female with a popular drug then proceeding to have sex with her.
“Put molly in her champagne / She ain’t even know it / I took her home and I enjoyed that / She ain’t even know it.” Rick Ross raps.
Chaudhury started up a petition last Friday gathering a whopping 51,000 signatures. According to her petition, she claims the lyrics are instigations of a crime as he boastfully states how he drugs and rapes a woman.
According to Billboard, the petition reads:
His lyrics aren’t vague, he’s not hinting that he raped a woman–he’s clearly and proudly saying that he drugged and raped a woman who was not capable of consent.
By holding Rick Ross up as something to aspire to, Reebok is sending the message that raping a woman is cool–and that’s a dangerous message to send the boys and young men that Reebok markets to. This is what rape culture is.
Reebok needs to know that we won’t stand for this. Will you sign the petition telling Reebok that rape is NEVER okay and they should drop Rick Ross right away?
Tell Reebok:
Rewarding a man who brags about raping women sends a dangerous message. Rick Ross’ lyrics about drugging and raping a woman are offensive and outrageous, and Reebok should drop him as a spokesperson immediately.
It can definitely be understood as far as the frustration and pretentiousness of Nita Chaudhury as I was taken aback myself upon hearing Rozay’s verse for the first time. The line was absolutely disgusting as well as degrading and to be quite frank, the lyrics alone caused me to lower a few, if not all, notches of respect for him.
Let’s sit back and see how this all unfolds with Reebok.
