Grammy-nominated artist Ryan Leslie was been ordered by the courts to freeze a savings account worth 2 million dollars once the case of his stolen laptop is resolved. He would then have to cough up 1.2 million dollars.
In 2010, Ryan's backpack was stolen in Cologne, Germany. The backpack held his laptop, an external hard drive, jewelry, and some cash. Upon noticing his missing his backpack, Leslie announced via YouTube video a nice reward of $20,000 for the return of his belongings. Once some time passed with no response , he upped the rewards to a cool million dollars. After about a month later, a mechanic came upfront claiming he found he laptop in a garbage bag in the forest while walking his dog. Right.
Anyway, the mechanic attempted to collect his mil but was refused by Leslie on grounds that the computer files were corrupted. Unfortunately, this became a court matter, forcing the R&B star to live up to his promises and pay the reward PLUS interest.
According to the New York Post, Leslie testified that his offer of reward was "contingent upon [his] ability to retrieve several unreleased multi-track songs stored on the hard drive. Which could not be accessed after getting it back."
At the end of it all, a jury agreed he still owed the reward money to the German, Armin Augstein. The court ordered Leslie to pay an additional $180,000 in interest the accrued between the time the laptop was found and upon the decision coming down from federal court in 2012.
Damn Ryan, bet you wished you would've kept it chill that second announcement.
