Apparently Lil Wayne's apology letter was not enough to satisfy PepsiCo in keeping his endorsement deal with Mountain Dew, as they have officially dropped the rapper from the deal.
Here's the spill according to Associated Press:
PepsiCo said in a statement late Friday that Wayne's "offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand." It declined to provide any further comment.
A publicist for Lil Wayne, Sarah Cunningham, said in a statement that the split was due to "creative differences" and that it was an amicable parting.
"That's about all I can tell you at this time," the statement from Wayne's publicist said.
The controversy erupted after Wayne made the reference to Till on Future's song "Karate Chop" earlier this year. He refers to beating someone during a sexual act and says he wants to do as much damage as was done to Till.
Earlier this week, Wayne gave an explanation to the disrespectful rhyme on fellow rapper Future's "Karate Chop" remix. He attempted the apology and explanation after the Till family announced their forth action of having Wayne dropped from the Mountain Dew Ad campaign.
With Wayne's "somewhat of" an apology he included a statement of having "tremendous respect for those who paved the way for the liberty and opportunities that African-Americans currently enjoy," he never quite said the words "apologize" or "sorry" and consequentially this didn't set well with the Till family as they proceeding with their original plan.
Rappers must tighten up a bit and choose lyrics wisely, especially those who have endorsements. Rap music will FOREVER be under a microscope! Smh
