R.I.P. - Chris Kelly of Kris Kross Passes Away...

It saddens me to bring this news to my readers, as we have lost yet another memorable music icon of our music genre.
Chris Kelly, known as one half of the 90’s rap duo Kris Kross died yesterday, late Wednesday afternoon, in Atlanta from an apparent drug overdose. Authorities say he passed away in his Atlanta home at the early age of 34.
According to a spokeswoman (Kay Lester) for the Fulton County police, the police were phoned at about 4:30pm yesterday and Chris was later taken to the Atlanta Medical Center. Sadly pronounced at around 5pm, was the death of Chris Kelly.
Chris, the self-proclaimed “Mac Daddy” along side his partner Chris Smith “Daddy Mac”, took the world by storm as they were introduced to us back in 92’ by Atlanta’s own Jermaine Dupri after discovering the duo in a mall. Their unique style of backwards clothes caught our eyes but moreover, they impressed us with their lyrics.
With Kris Kross’s insane party anthem “Jump” being their most successful hit off their 1992 debut album “Totally Krossed Out”, the song went multiplatinum and later became the number 1 smash globally also winning most popular for that year.
The duo became instantly famous touring with Michael Jackson and even had their own video game.
Rumors spread in 2009 that Chris Kelly had cancer after surfaced photos of bald spots in his head. But all the rumors stopped after an interview on YouTube was posted (Straight from the A TV) where he stated that his “health is good” but suffers from alopecia, which is a rare condition where people tend to lose hair.
Earlier this year in February, Kris Kross reunited for one night as they graced the stage at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta for the 20th Anniversary celebration of Jermaine Dupri’s label So So Def. The performance was indeed a great one, taking the crowd back into time as they ‘jumped’ and sang along to the lyrics of their songs.

Rapper Da Brat, who also performed that night, wrote about Kelly's death, "REST IN PEACE TO MY LIL BRO CHRIS KELLY OF KRIS KROSS. Dam wasn't we JUST at rehearsal and doin a So So Def20 show?"
As sad as this news has to be, we all can settle a bit unselfishly knowing Chris has moved on to a much better place and is no longer under any pressures of the world and is no longer in worry for this life.
I send my deepest condolences to all of Chris Kelly’s family and friends.
R.I.P. Chris Kelly…
